taiwan day 8: slow day in taipei
hey, sorry it's been a while. since i've been back from my trip, life has gotten busy, projects get pushed aside for more projects, and time continues to speed up. so the cycle goes. just wanted to let you, my beloved reader, know that even though i may be working at my own pace, my taiwan and japan trip WILL be blogged about; it will just be done when it is done.
we last left off seeing the zhushan sunrise in alishan and then seeing the bustling night market in taipei. the story for day 8 is much more relaxed. stick around for the journey and be sure to read to the end for a fun surprise :)
my friend and i started our day off by meeting early for breakfast at sihai soymilk in the datong district of taipei. we both ordered different variations of a taiwanese omelette sandwich and a cup of soymilk. banger. you know what it is.

afterwards, we went back to mitsuo for a nice little coffee to really get the day going.

we were both feeling pretty drained from waking up early for the sunrise and the pace of travel, so we spent the early afternoon leisurely walking through the city and making our way to lin mao sen tea shop so my friend could buy tea souvenirs.
at this tea shop, they had bins and bins and bins of different teas to examine. unfortunately i completely blew my tea budget in tainan, so i was simply a passenger.

more coffee:

one fun thing about taiwan is that you can buy many variations on transit cards to use for public transportation or at convenience stores. i use the term transit card loosely because in many instances, they are not cards lol
while we were souvenir shopping, i decided to get a new transit passion fruit popsicle keychain:

yes, it works for the train:

for the rest of the afternoon, we did a little bit of shopping. first, we went to an outdoors store called samplus:

and their sister store, cow records:

nearby, we grabbed a quick noodle lunch:

honestly, and very unexpectedly, one of the best things that i ate on the trip.
my friend was getting ready to catch her flight back to japan, so we only had time for one more stop: taipei 101!
it certainly is a tower:

apparently someone climbed it with no ropes recently.
the time came for me to bid farewell to my friend and venture off alone in taipei. i continued to hang around and shop around taipei 101 for a while before eating soup and heading back to my hotel for the night.

that's all for our day in taipei! thanks for sticking with me and your patience waiting for this installment of my blog. stay tuned; more is coming :)
BONUS!!!
at this point, i really don't need to say anything
